Before flying away on your holiday, remember the golden advice about keeping away from the local water. Foreign travellers to South America, Africa, Asia and some parts of Europe need to be wary. Some places will have more dangerous water borne diseases which will possess health risks that you need to be educated about. Every big city has their own unique bacteria in the water, so it is very normal to get sick while traveling abroad. On average about one in three people will spend at least one day of their holiday in bed due to an upset stomach cause by foreign organisms attacking the bodies immune system. Within an airplane cabin, approximately 80% of the air is recycled pressurised air and can become contaminated if there are sick people on the plane. With each new country you visit, your body will get stronger at fighting off these bacteria and build up a resistance. If you get sick during your holiday it can ruin the whole experience. Nobody wants to spend their hard earned cash on a trip where they end up sick in bed all day. One of the most common ways to get sick is by drinking the local water. Your best bet is to avoid the water all together and drink plenty of clean bottled water from a supermarket. Also, brush your teeth with bottled water and wash hands too. If you are travelling to a hot country you may become dehydrated. This will make illness easy as your bodys defences will be down. Drink at least 2 litres eery few hours to keep your body functioning at optimum levels during your trip. If you are feeling a bit ill try to avoid alcohol and caffeine as they make you urinate more and therefor cause dehydration.

If you get sick while traveling it is recommended that you take it easy and get some rest. Nobody wants to spend their trip in bed sleeping but taking short naps will help your recover. Try to get some sleep after lunch or dinner. Relaxing activities such as reading a great book or swimming can help pass the time and keep your mind active and not focused on the illness. Try to get your strength back and not take part in anything that would require to much energy.

The Best Way To Protect Yourself

The best defense against illness is to limit some of your exposure to the thing which causes it. Avoid water as much as possible unless necessary and when you land stock up on fluids. The cabin air in a airplane is dry, and can cause dehydration. Try to get a good nights sleep before your trip. Lack of sleep and the stress of travelling can lower your immune system. Temperatures inside a plane can be chilly so make sure to have warm clothes on board. Keep a bottle of water handy, a small bottle of hand sanitizer, stretch you legs, take a multivitamin and moisturise regularly during flights.

If you are feeling ill then get to a pharmacy to get some remedies quick. Getting some over the counter help at the first signs of illness can stop it ruining your holiday. Carrying a travellers first aid kit is a wise idea and packing it with some hand sanitizer, Imodium, antihistamines, insect repellent, lozenges and ginger candies for motion sickness is recommended.. This small kit would only cost a few dollars to pit together and save you from having to visit a doctor abroad. few remedies can save you a lot of disappointment

When you make it to your desired location, try not to divulge into local foods straight away. This will give your body time to adapt to the change of environment and help prevent you falling ill.
